Growth in the LCD monitor market
Latest figures show a healthy growth in the LCD monitor market in the first quarter of this year. Results published by the US market research company, Display Search show that ‘worldwide LCD monitor shipments rose 85% Y/Y to 2.32 million units with 125% growth predicted for Q2’01 to 2.784 million units’.
LCD monitors also gained a greater share on the desktop monitor markets, with there share increasing from 5.6% to 7.7%. In part this increase was help by the falling street prices of LCD monitors. Display Search says ‘he weighted average LCD monitor street price fell 9% sequentially in Q1’01 and 20% Y/Y to $994 and is expected to fall 16% sequentially and 34% Y/Y in Q2’01 to $833. Seventeen inch LCD monitor prices have fallen by 54% Y/Y with 15” LCD monitors down 35% and 15” street prices as low as $345’.
