US FPD Conference 2003: Evolution of an Industry
DisplaySearch, the flat panel display market research group, has announced the keynote speakers at the US FPD Conference 2003: Evolution of an Industry on April 1-3, 2003 at the Hilton Torrey Pines in San Diego, California. The keynote speakers include AU Optronics President HB Chen, Cambridge Display Technology CEO David Fyfe, IDTech President and Chi Mei Optoelectronics Vice Chairman Takahisa Hashimoto and LG.Philips LCD Executive Vice President Bruce Berkoff. Reproduced from the display research press release, the topics of these key note addresses will be as follows:
AU Optronics (AUO) President HB Chen will present an overview of the TFT LCD market and AUO's market outlook. Mr. Chen served as Director of Acer Display Technologies (ADT) since 1998, and President and Chief Operating Officer since 1997. Before joining ADT in 1997, he worked for Acer Technologies Sdn. Bhd. in Malaysia from 1992 to 1997. In 2002, he was elected Chairman of the Taiwan TFT LCD Association (TTLA), which actively promotes the Taiwan TFT LCD industry.
Cambridge Display Technology (CDT) CEO David Fyfe will keynote with a presentation on the future of the rapidly expanding OLED market. He will also discuss industry progress in polymer materials and manufacturing. CDT is the pioneer of this cutting-edge technology now gaining momentum in the display industry. A 30-year veteran of the global chemical and engineering industries, Mr. Fyfe joined CDT as CEO in August 2000. Mr. Fyfe has extensive expertise in negotiating joint ventures, acquisitions and partnerships, previously holding senior executive positions at ICI and BF Goodrich.
Also keynoting the conference will be Takahisa Hashimoto, President of International Display Technology (IDTech) and Vice-Chairman of Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO). Mr. Hashimoto is one of the most influential executives in the display industry, having played a leadership role in the LCD business since the industry's inception. IDTech is a joint venture created by CMO and IBM. Mr. Hashimoto sits on the Board of Directors of IBM Japan − one of the most innovative and largest companies in the display industry − headquartered within IBM's well-known Yamato facility. Mr. Hashimoto presents on Day One of the conference.
Bruce Berkoff is Executive Vice President of Marketing for LG.Philips LCD and will discuss the outlook for TFT LCDs in the television market. Prior to LG.Philips LCD, Mr. Berkoff served as general manager for the software and electronics business unit of Philips Flat Display Systems (FDS). Earlier in his career, Mr. Berkoff held senior marketing and management positions at a number of leading technology companies, including UMAX Computer Corporation, Radius, SuperMac Technologies and Ziff-Davis Labs.
