Polish Liquid Crystal Society established in 2008

It is my pleasure to announce the recent establishment of a further national liquid crystal society, that of Poland, which was formed in 2008.

The first elected president of the Polish Liquid Crystal Society is Prof. S. Urban, and vice-president is Prof. J. Zielinski. Further members of the board are: secretary, Dr. M. Tykarska; treasurer, Dr. M. Marzec; and Prof. W. Kuczynski, who is also the national representative to the International Liquid Crystal Society (ILCS).

The society can be contacted at the postal address:
Polish Liquid Crystal Society
Reymonta 4
30-059 Krakow
Poland

Or electronically via:
Email: Polish Liquid Crystal Society

I wish this newly founded national liquid crystal society well-deserved success and a flourishing future. The liquid crystal community in Poland has been very active, especially over the last decade or so. I refer not only to research activity and contributions to the subject, but also to its service to the international liquid crystal community in general. This is exemplified by the organisation of several major conferences (FLC 2005 and ILCC 2010 next year), and a number of somewhat smaller international conferences and topical workshops over the years, some of which have been reported in past issues of Liquid Crystals Today. I personally recall attending several meetings in Zakopane, Krynica Zdroj, and Bedlewo, all of which were a pleasure to take part in, due to splendid organisation, quality of research contributions and beauty of venue, not to mention the social events!

I am sure the members of ILCS will join me in wishing the newly founded Polish Liquid Crystal Society all the best and success for the future.
